Do you hate your life?
Surrender to the Law of Life.
To hate Life = To hate God = To hate Yourself
Let’s be honest, when the fires of life sear through our
skin and get into our bones it is easy to hate life. When these fires keep returning over and
over, we take it personally. We turn
that hate upon ourselves. When the fires persist despite our ardent faith, we
get to hating God also.
To hate your life is to hate your God. To hate God is to
hate yourself.
God is life. God is not
just the creator of life, God is the spirit of life. No matter what life feels like in this
moment, you exist in grace, because you exist in God. As broken and fragmented as it may feel, your
life is an act of grace.
“Your power at work in me, I’m broken gracefully .. here I
am Lord, arms wide open. Pouring out my
life, gracefully broken. I surrender.”*
It’s hard to see it at times, but your life is so
deliberately, strategically and gracefully broken. You are not a helpless victim of life. Life is not your enemy, life does not hate
you. Life treasures you. God treasures you.
Being a Christian means radical change in the way we
interpret life. Toss out the old stories,
Spirit said today ‘toss out the nonsense, tune in to GodSENSE’. That is what it means to be a Christian. It means we open to our God so He can teach
us how to interpret life from His perspective.
Particularly when we are in the trenches.
I surrender to the Lord of Life, I surrender to the Law of
Life, I surrender to the Spirit of Life.
Do this exercise with me.
Set a timer for ten minutes.
Close your eyes, focus in, withdraw from the noise. Repeat these words slowly, savoring each
word, allowing each one to settle in your mind and sink into your heart. Repeat these three sentences over and over
until your timer goes off.
I surrender to the Lord of Life.
I surrender to the Law of Life.
I surrender to the Spirit of Life.
“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you .. may
the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after
you have suffered a while, perfect, stablish, strengthen, and settle you.” - 1
Peter 5:7,10
Surrender is our path to freedom. Wherever we are feeling attacked, defeated,
oppressed or bound up in life, surrendering to our God is our way up and
out. When you hate yourself, when you hate
your circumstances, when you hate your life, surrender.
I surrender to the Lord of Life. We call him Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the redeemer of life. He is the giver of life. He is the gateway to life. He is the bread of life. He is the fountain of life. He is the joy of
life. He is the light of life. He is the Lord above all lords, the Lord of life.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in
Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the
Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of
life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.. For to be
carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” – Romans
8:1-2,5-6
To hate yourself is death.
It is no coincidence that self-hatred walks closely with suicide.
Suicide is hating life, hating self, hating God and choosing the law of
death. To choose Christ is to choose the
Law of Life.
I surrender to the Law of Life, which is the law of
Christ. In Christ I move forward in
newness of life. In Christ I learn to
trust life because my life is hidden in Christ.
In Christ I learn to love life because Christ is life.
I surrender to the spirit of life. The spirt of life reached into the grave
where our Jesus lay and brought him into resurrection life. By the same spirit I too can walk in this
world healthy, happy, victorious, purposeful and filled with a joy that defies
understanding. This is the spirit of
life which is in Jesus Christ.
Lord take all my broken pieces, I surrender them to
you. Not because they feel meaningless
and worthless, not because life has beaten me into submission. I give you my brokenness Lord, because I know
you are the master potter, you know what to do with the broken pieces. I know your plan for me is more than I could
even begin to imagine.
I know heavenly Father You are the breath of life in me, You
are the pulse of life around me and Your heart toward me is good. Therefore Life’s will for me is good.
Lord I commit in this moment, to embracing life. However it shows up for me, because I know You
are in every part of it. I know You are
the master planner, I know You are a flawless orchestrator, I know You are a
faithful shepherd and You know my beginning from my end.
I surrender. I
surrender to the Lord of Life. I
surrender to the Law of Life. I surrender
to the Spirit of Life. I trust you Lord
with my life. I know that in the end,
I will be delightfully surprised.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:11-13
Authors Note:
Before closing, I take a few minutes to do a heart-tuitive
interpretation of today’s message.
It’s all about attunement and receptivity. Are you receptive to the energy and Law of
Life, or are you receptive to the energy and Law of Death? What is it that you tune
into, buy into, and claim within yourself and within your life? Both options are available to you Child of
God. Which do you choose?
The Law of Sin and Death comes with judgement, condemnation
and separation from God. It causes us to
separate from and reject ourselves, as we feel separated from and rejected by
life. It sends us on a an endless spiral
of working to earn our salvation, struggling to please God or striving to buy
His favor. We end up condemning
ourselves over and over.
The Law of Life says, I have new life in Christ. He knows my name, every hair on my head he
has numbered. I belong in this world, I
belong in this life, I have a purpose, I have value. First because I have value to Him. Just as I am, I am worth something to
God. Fractured,
wounded, beaten down, broken, He sees the beauty in my brokenness. I pause and allow myself to see the beauty
that He sees in me. I surrender.
My heavenly Father knows what He has planted in me. He knows the seeds that even I have yet to
see. He knows the grace, He knows the
glory that He put into me. He shines the
light of Christ on me, and in all the broken places, His glory shines
through. I am radiant. Just as I am.
I am my Lord’s glory, just waiting for the world to
see. But first, I must see what He sees
in me. The glory of Christ in me is confidence,
security, resilience, buoyancy. I can face anything, I can do anything
through Christ who strengthens me.
The light of Christ in me is divine love. It allows me to love myself, all of
myself. It allows me to love my world, everyone
in it and every part of it. The love of
Christ allows me to love every moment of my life no matter how life is showing
up for me.
I surrender to the Lord of Life, I surrender to the Law of Life, I surrender to the Spirit of Life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
